Clifton campus
Clifton campus is located approximately four miles south of Nottingham city centre on the outskirts of Clifton Village. The campus comprises 32 hectares of land in an enclosed campus environment.
Although it is not as immediately obvious as at our Brackenhurst campus, biodiversity can be seen around the campus including a variety of species of birds, bats and insects. Habitats are also provided within areas such as The Grove, bounding the site to the north east comprising mature trees along the River Trent.
There is no doubt that there are many other species of wildlife roaming the grounds of Clifton which are currently unknown. However, as part of our commitment to biodiversity across our estate we will be investigating further into exactly what creatures share the campus with us and how we can enhance the environment to encourage numbers to increase and entice new wildlife to the campus.
Green Flag Status
In the summer of 2012 Clifton campus was awarded the Green Flag status. This is a national award recognising green spaces throughout the country. Clifton campus received its Green Flag along with other notable green spaces such as Buckingham Palace Garden and Hyde Park in London as well as the Arboretum in Nottingham city centre. The campus was assessed against eight key criteria including:
- being a welcoming place,
- sustainable management,
- how composting, littering and the use of pesticides are managed and
- local community involvement for example how the cricket pitches are used by local sports teams; how the landscape is improved with the help of NTU staff and students.
NTU is one of only 8 universities in the UK to achieved this prestigious award for its grounds. For more information about the Green Flag Awards visit their website.
