Purchasing and Investments
NTU acknowledges that its purchasing activities have a significant impact on the local environment, society and the economy. As a member of the higher education sector, the University also accepts it has a global impact on sustainability and recognises it has a responsibility to reduce those impacts.
The University is committed to taking a sustainable approach to its purchasing activity. The University's Senior Management Team endorsed the University's Sustainable Purchasing Policy in 2007, which outlines how we aim to embed sustainability into our purchasing activity.
The Purchasing Department will be providing further guidance, tool kits and useful web links so that staff can give due consideration to the sustainable impacts of their purchasing activity when making purchasing decisions. Keep an eye out for further announcements.
Any staff that would like to attend training sessions on sustainable purchasing should email Janice Towers, if they haven't already done so.
Ethical Investment
NTU recognises its responsibility to operate in an ethical manner and take account of social, environmental and ethical considerations in all activities, including financial investment. Our Treasury Management Policy includes a section on Ethical Investment and states that "Investments shall only be made with institutions with a clear and transparent Ethical Investment Policy which reflect the University’s ethical values".
