Secondary and Continuing Teacher Education
The Secondary and Continuing Teacher Education Team aims to inspire, excite and empower our teachers. Through promoting and enhancing learning and teaching opportunities, we enable you to make significant contributions to shaping the futures of your pupils.
Within our programmes we enrich your vision, judgement and expertise so that that you can motivate and capture the imaginations of those you teach. While our continuing professional development courses aim to foster new knowledge and enhance your existing teaching skills to enable you to advance in your career.
The team comprises our Secondary PGCEs, employment-based initial teacher training, subject knowledge enhancement and booster courses and undergraduate teaching courses. These are led by a highly expert group of colleagues with a wealth of experience across a broad range of subject areas and specialisms.
Within the Secondary and Continuing Teacher Education Team we aim to give you the necessary subject and professional skills to:
- Understand the generic aspects of teaching and learning
- Understand the wider professional role of the teacher, the concept of professional values and their application to practice
- Plan for teaching, monitoring and assessing pupil achievement
- Inform classroom practice by research and to develop a creative and enquiring approach to the development of effective and best practice.
Our portfolio of programmes is well established and our excellent partnerships with schools and colleges are central to the success of these programmes. A particular feature of all our secondary programmes is the emphasis on work-based learning. We believe practice and theory are mutually interactive and that the development of these two aspects allow you to become critically reflective practioners.
