Formative assessment

Using Turnitin to support formative assessment

TurnitinUK can be used as a formative tool allowing students to see an originality report based on a draft version of their assignment. Within this option there are three different ways that students can be enabled access to the Originality Reports:

a. A Dropbox folder is set-up in NOW and the student is allowed only one submission of one file to the folder. This can be used to limit the number of formative submissions available to each student i.e. there will need to be a separate Dropbox folder for each formative submission as well as a folder for the final submission.

b. A Dropbox folder is set-up in NOW and students are allowed to submit as many documents as they wish but each document is stored and the originality report for each submission can be viewed by both student and staff. This option allows the students an unlimited number of submissions but retains a document trail indicating the number of files submitted for checking and the results of all Originality Reports.

c. A Dropbox folder is set up in NOW where the student can submit the same document as many times as they like overwriting the previous submission so that only one Originality Report is available. This option allows students to use the Originality Report without retaining a document trail. Staff will not be able to determine the number of times the student submitted a file for checking and nor will they be able to view the results of the Originality Reports for any previous submissions.
