Plagiarism detection

The University subscribes to the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) online Plagiarism Detection Service (PDS). This service enables higher education institution staff to check for plagiarism of uploaded student assessments. Options can be set to allow students to check the originality of their work. Text-based assignments are checked against all of the following:

• each other
• other texts uploaded by students at other institutions
• academic papers available on the web
• general web pages.

This service aims to:

• avoid collusion
• correct referencing
• deter deliberate cheating.

The service aims to improve academic practice and the quality of student academic outputs.
