MSc in Biomedical Science
Project title: MSC in Biomedical Science (Flexible programme)
Date: in progress.
Collaborators: Biomedical Science headed by Phil Cheetham, Paul Butler and David Morris.
Details
This is the first fully online MSc to be offered by NTU. The first two modules of the programme were launched in October 2008 with the other nine modules due for release during 2009.
The flexible entry MSc sits on the NOW virtual learning environment and exploits a number of features including:
- programme and module level discussions
- dropbox (online submission).
As a fully online course, and with most students employed in a related medical role, we are conscious of the special difficulties of learning online. That's why we have set-up a range of contacts and discussions groups to handle the type of issues and enquiries that would occur for face-to-face students and, at module level, to enhance student learning.
Programme level forums:
- technical issues
- general programme issues
- student café.
Module level forums:
- student introductions
- topic specific forums.
To manage student expectations, we have tried to be clear about:
- how to get in touch
- when tutors will login to discussions
- internet etiquette while online.
We also encourage students to seek solutions from their course colleagues via discussion postings.
