The University is committed to disability equality, promoting positive attitudes towards disabled people, and eliminating unlawful disability discrimination and harassment.

The Equality Act 2010 places a positive duty on the University to eliminate discrimination and actively promote disability equality.

In particular, the acts place a responsibility on the University to make reasonable adjustments for members of staff and students with disabilities, to prevent any substantial disadvantage they may face because of their disability. They also make it the proactive duty of the University to anticipate the needs of potential staff, students and other stakeholders with disabilities, and to meet these accordingly.

The EFD Briefing on the Equality Act and Disability Discrimination, produced by the Employers' Forum on Disability, provides detailed information on the Equality Act 2010 and its implications for the University as an employer. This document is available to staff who have logged into the EFD website as a member.  All members of NTU staff are able to register for membership of EFD.

The University plans and monitors its progress in promoting disability equality via the University's Equality Scheme. In addition, the University manages and removes any potential barriers to staff, students and other stakeholders through the University-wide Equality Impact Assessment process.

Students can access specific support via the University's Disability Support and Dyslexia Support teams.

If any student or member of staff feels they are being bullied or harassed due to their disability, they can source advice through our Harassment Adviser Service.

Members of staff seeking specific support relating to a disability can access this via their local HR team, or the Occupational Health Service.

The University is a member of the Employer's Forum on Disability, the world's leading employers' organisation focused on disability as it affects business. Through this membership, all NTU staff can access a wide range of information and resources. Some can be found on our resources page and other information and resources can be accessed by staff members registering directly on the Employers' Forum on Disability website.

Disabled colleagues are warmly invited to join the Disabled Employees Network.
