Gender reassignment
The University is committed to tackling unlawful discrimination and harassment on the grounds of gender reassignment, in line with the Equality Act 2010. As such, the University's Equality Scheme and Equality Impact Assessment procedure both take gender identity or trans issues into account.
Members of the University community who have undergone, are undergoing, or plan to undergo gender reassignment are invited to disclose this to their course tutor if a student, or their line manager if a member of staff, to ensure that they are provided with appropriate support. They may also contact Student Support Services or the Equality and Diversity team for additional services.
The Equality and Diversity team can also help members of its community to access information and resources on gender reassignment and other trans issues.
Guidance on good practice within higher education institutions in relation to trans issues is available through the Equality Challenge Unit.
The University is also keen to institute consultation mechanisms with trans staff and students, and warmly invites them to contact the Engagement Officer to discuss suitable ways of gaining their feedback on aspects of University life.
