Equality Scheme

What is it?
The Equality Scheme is the primary mechanism for ensuring that the University fully complies with and reports on its legislative duties, as well as its own policy and equality aims. Information and activities required by statute are included, such as the accessible publication of Equality Objectives and Equality Information.

The Equality Scheme runs over three year periods to allow for longer term planning. The initial scheme will run from 2012 to 2015. It replaces the previous Single Equality Scheme.

How will work on the Scheme be reported?
An annual report will be published each January, which will provide information on the most recent full academic year. An academic year runs from August to July.

The report will share progress against the Equality Objectives and provide the Equality Information and analysis. It will also incorporate an annual review of the work of the University's Equality and Diversity function, as well as any other relevant information.

Who is responsible?
Colleges, Schools and Professional Services are responsible for work in their own areas in relation to the Equality Objectives, and for collating and providing their Equality Information to the Equality and Diversity team for analysis and inclusion in the Annual Report. The Equality and Diversity team is responsible for coordinating all work in relation to the Equality Scheme.

How do I access the annual reports?
Equality Scheme reports where available are accessible at the bottom of this page. You will be able to open the documents by clicking on the name of the report you want to access. Where possible, each report is published in two file formats, Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF. This should make it accessible to different people with different technological needs and preferences. The content of both files is exactly the same.
