Data analysis and interpretation
The University is committed to addressing issues of equality and diversity through a thorough evidence-based approach. In so doing, we recognise the need for our monitoring of equality-related information and subsequent analysis and interpretation of that data to be:
- as accurate as possible - we are constantly examining our processes for the best means of data capture whilst always protecting people's confidentiality
- fully benchmarked against comparable circumstances - we ensure that we position the information in context wherever we can to make it most meaningful
- comprehensively considered - to avoid snap judgements and to ensure the data gets to the right people in an accessible way, we analyse the data and report on it as well as selecting samples for further scrutiny by Committees and focus groups.
This approach to data analysis and interpretation is intended to ensure that we make the most informed decisions when working within the Equality Scheme and on Equality Impact Assessment.
It does, of course, operate in close relationship to our engagement work, drawing raw data from some elements such as surveys, for further examination.
Listed below are links to documents containing equality related data for staff, students and the wider community. In addition, links are provided to relevant websites specialising in data which can be used for comparison purposes during analysis of your own data.
