Research that shapes lives and society is central to the mission of the University and its contribution to the intellectual and economic health of the nation, city and region. NTU sees research and scholarly activity as an essential activity to be encouraged at all levels. As well as having value in its own right, it underpins the learning and teaching environment for all subjects and courses.

The University is involved in wide-ranging research activity in each of our academic Schools. Collaboration with other academic institutions and organisations ensures our research is outward looking and focused on solving real problems.

Research excellence

The Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008 results showed that the quality of the University's research is outstanding, with 74% of activity submitted achieving international status and 8% classed as world-leading.
