
Welcome to Global Week – a celebration of the rich cultural diversity on campus – running from Monday 11 to Friday 15 February.
Opening with the dawn of the Chinese New Year, we’re putting on a festival of food, music, dance, cinema and drama from around the world. Expect everything from Bollywood dance workshops and Korean movie nights to African story-telling, Tai Chi and much more.
As well as celebrating diversity, Global Week will provide you with a window on the world. Through engagement with international students you’ll have the chance to broaden your understanding of different cultures and languages. You’ll also learn more about the University’s commitment to internationalisation and discover the many opportunities we provide to study and work abroad.

Get a close up of ChinaExperience Chinese New Year at our vibrant Dragon Dance on Monday 11 February at 1pm. It’s a great way to kick off Global Week and start exploring the ancient Chinese traditions.
Why not have a go at Tai Chi, a type of Chinese martial art or listen to an expert on Chinese Medicine.

View the world a different wayInternational films and global film production have been making an impact on the British scene for some time now. Come and see for yourself as students from the School of Art, Design and the Built Environment show you what they think is the best International film, and on Wednesday 13 February you can join the Korean Society for a film night featuring the King and the Clown - Korean’s biggest grossing film.
We’ll also be playing international cartoons throughout the week at The Point Bar on Clifton Campus.

Get blown away by physical featsPhysical performances have long been an expression of culture and history all over the world. This is your chance to watch and take part in these sensational art forms.
For a relaxed lunch time activity, why not try your hand at Tai Chi - a traditional Chinese martial art used for both defensive training and health benefits.
Then from China to Brazil, we whisk you away to the fast and fluid world of Capoeira. An art form which combines fight, dance, rhythm and movement. Capoeira is a dialog between players and one not to be missed.
You’ll also get chance to see a Gatka display and watch this magnificent Sikh weapon-based marital art, most commonly associated with the Punjab region.
And finally to Korea to take a look at one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts – Taekwondo.

Get your hips movingStarting with the traditional Dragon Dance. Come and watch a skilled team of performers bring this motionless serpent to life during the Chinese New Year celebrations!
Then get involved and try your hand at Bollywood dancing, a combination of classical Indian dance and folk dancing such as Bhangra.
We also have the Brazilian art form of Capoeira, combining fight and dance in spectacular style.

Feel the sound of a united rhythmLove music, dancing and the beat of the drum, then come and experience a variety of music from across the globe.
From China we have dance performances featuring the Chinese Flute and, an NTU favourite – the powerful calypso sounds of the Caribbean Steel Band.
Then we conclude the week-long celebrations in Newton with the uplifting and enriching sounds of the African Gospel Choir.

The world at your fingertipsBrightening up the Newton building, Rangoli Artists will be creating colourful works of art. A folk art from India, these decorative designs are traditionally made on the floor as a sacred welcoming during the Hindu festivals.
Why not become a piece of art yourself and be transformed with the traditional body art of henna? And for something a bit different - watch and listen to Malaysian stories through shadow puppetry!
At NTIC, we are proud to host more than 50 different nationalities of students and staff. Offering a wide range of university preparation programmes, we encourage students to draw on their diverse backgrounds and experiences in order to engage in cultural exchange.
