Sport Lived: creating sporting trips of a lifetime
Sport Lived was founded by Nottingham-born Ian Dodd. Ian spent four years developing his business at Nottingham Trent University’s purpose-built Centre for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise, The Hive.
Sport Lived arrange sport and travel experiences for young players and coaches. They enable people to play or coach sport during a gap year or summer break, from 4 weeks to 6 months, in locations around the world.
One satisfied customer was Olympic medal winner George Nash. George took a gap year trip to Melbourne in 2008 organised by Sport Lived, which George said "opened my eyes to what it would take to reach the top of my sport".
Support from the Hive
The environment provided by The Hive has helped the company to grow into what it is today: employing 12 staff, both in the UK and overseas, turnover approaching £1m, and sending over 250 customers per year for once-in-a-lifetime sporting trips to four continents.
Ian said: "The Hive is an incredible facility. It offers access to the University’s resources, excellent business mentoring, and a professional and stimulating environment that enables you to share and learn from like-minded people. It is perfect for both fostering creative connections and acquiring the sort of knowledge that’s vital for kick-starting a young business and allowing it to flourish."
