Digicom Solutions

Wholesale electronics company, Digicom Solutions Ltd, was founded in September 2006 by NTU graduate Kawsar Miah. Kawsar started the business at just 20 years old whilst on his placement year at Nottingham Trent University.

Their product range includes:

  • LCDs
  • plasma screens
  • digital cameras
  • memory devices
  • digital camcorders
  • games consoles
  • projectors
  • laptops
  • satellite navigation systems
  • USB sticks
  • mobile phones.

The idea for Digicom Solutions came when Kawsar was visiting family in Bangladesh in March 2006. With rapid growth in the electronic market, consumers were buying electronic goods on a regular basis and paying considerably more in comparison to the UK. Seeing this as an opportunity, he decided to set up his own business exporting electronics to Bangladesh.

In April 2007 the Bangladesh government handed its power over to the army and declared martial law. This meant increased taxes and more security measures, which meant it took longer to clear goods. Since this turn in events Kawsar has adjusted the business to trade mainly in the UK.

The company has really taken off, reaching a turnover of just over 1.2 million. It has grown to accommodate 40 distributors and suppliers servicing more than 60 customers.

Digicom Solutions employs eight people, including Kawsar - a full time Operations Manager, a Warehouse Supervisor and five Warehouse Staff. Kawsar is also about to launch a new company called Digihome Solutions, a wholesale furniture company. He also has plans develop the company further by building the Digi Group – one of many other new business ideas to come in the near future.
