About us
The main activities of the Centre involve the following:
- publications of journals Theory, Culture & Society, Body & Society and the Theory, Culture & Society Books Series
- organizing conferences; colloquia; research seminars; workshops; and visiting speaker programmes - currently the focus is on the development of The New Encyclopedia Project
- research development, collaboration and networking
- contributing to the PhD postgraduate programme at NTU
- host visiting professors, research fellows, postdoctorates and graduates.
Theory, Culture & Society
Edited by Prof Mike Featherstone, Theory, Culture & Society is a major international journal with high impact in the areas of sociology, cultural theory and social theory. It continues to be edited from the TCS Centre, part of the Institute for Cultural Analysis at Nottingham Trent University. It recently enjoyed its 25th anniversary and has been widely acknowledged as playing a leading role in setting the agenda for theoretical research in the social and human sciences. The activities generated from the TCS Centre has helped the journal to sustain a high impact factor evident in the number of downloads and citations. These factors are important indices of high quality research taken into account by the RAE.
Theory, Culture & Society is well known for its series of innovative special issues. Themes addressed over the last five years include:

Since 2006 the journal has been published eight times a year, including a double special issue, the Theory, Culture & Society Annual Review. All of the special issues have a high editorial input from Mike Featherstone and Couze Venn, who have also contributed a number of articles. Mike Featherstone writes many of the introductions.
Body & Society
Body & Society is also published from the TCS Centre. The journal, founded in 1995, is undergoing a detailed review in 2008. This includes the formation of a new editorial to bring the journal up to a similar international standing as Theory, Culture & Society.
Theory, Culture & Society Book Series
The Theory, Culture & Society Book Series continues to be published from the TCS Centre with more than 120 titles published. The series includes volumes by many of the leading figures in the field such as:
