Museum and Heritage Management
For over 14 years, Nottingham Trent University has successfully delivered a leading postgraduate course in museum and heritage management. In line with our vision for the future development of the heritage sector, we have expanded our activities for the benefit of professionals already working in the field.
We feel that, in the rapidly changing world of museums and heritage, there is a need for access to multi-skilled, quality staff who combine a broad vision of heritage issues with practical expertise in the care and presentation of the heritage.
Nottingham Trent University has set up the Centre for Museum and Heritage Management to provide consultancy support for the sector and training for both professionals in the field and those wishing to enter it.
Training programmes

Courses in Museums and Heritage Management and Public History at NTU combine the conceptual framework necessary to develop this vision with the underpinning knowledge and wide range of practical understanding required of modern heritage professionals.
Consultancy
Our aim: Supporting and shaping the museum and heritage sector.
The Centre for Museum and Heritage Management is run by experienced professional practitioners who have their own private consultancy businesses. They are able to offer consultancy in the following areas:
- evaluation
- visitor surveys and audience development
- collections management and curatorial services
- museum documentation

Short courses
The Centre, the University of Derby, Buxton and Leap Ahead are working together in partnership with business and educational providers on a series of short courses designed to encourage anyone with an interest in heritage, tourism and conservation to get involved or further their skills.
