Student practice

Student practice

The Centre is run by professionals working in the field. The emphasis in teaching and assessment throughout is on ‘learning by doing’.

Students on the course will take part in:

  • a client-initiated visitor study at a major heritage site in the East Midlands
  • a year-long placement project – one day a week – with a museum or heritage site local to Nottingham, or to the student’s home
  • an assessed block placement
  • an opportunity to be involved in a paid visitor study
  • the development of their own personal and professional portfolio (CPD)

All assessed work is directly practice-related.

Students also benefit from:

  • access to the ‘live’ external projects that staff are engaged in
  • outside speakers from within the sector
  • taught sessions that are also being used for staff development across the sector in the East Midlands
  • an active programme of field trips.
