Our overall mission is to keep student numbers small so that our courses can be flexible, run in a workshop format and give students as much individual attention as possible. Our aim is to have students in relevant employment making a difference.

Here are some thoughts from current and past students:

"The multi-project style approach of the diploma course has reaped it’s reward. Skills I learnt then are now used on a daily basis in a busy local authority museum service, managing projects, staff, contractors and volunteers."
Tim Burge, 1997 graduate
"What this post-graduate course did provide me was the opportunity to have hard evidence for future job applications. Even though I was in a supervisory position within the National Trust throughout the course, the MA gave me the evidence to illustrate that I can actually do the tasks that are before us in the workplace."
Keith Holland, Public History and Heritage Management part-time student 2008
"The course is great way into the heritage profession. It is informative and practical, relevant and up to date. The assignments will prepare you for a job in the sector and the content is well balanced… from what I have seen from other courses in heritage the Museums and Heritage Management course at NTU is extremely good."
Laura Summers, Positive Action Trainee 2008

Student profile

Liz Moran - Museum and Heritage Management

"I stepped into a management role at D.H. Lawrence Heritage immediately after completing the programme. There is so much to learn in my role, but I feel so positive about this as it is really enjoyable and the programme at NTU gave me a good grounding in the skills I needed.

"The modules I took were directly relevant to my present role and chosen career path, particularly in collections management and professional development. The programme is practical and useful in establishing a realistic approach to museum/heritage work. In particular, my personal development plan and professional portfolio were incredibly useful for job applications and interviews, and the ‘transferable skills’ that I have developed have been directly relevant and great for my CV.

"There was a great social group during my time on the programme and my student colleagues were friendly and supportive, particularly during group work. The programme has small numbers so you get to know everyone, including staff. The staff were accessible and supportive - I felt that they had time for us."
