Volunteering
Our students are involved with a wide range of local voluntary organisations and have had opportunities to work with migrants and asylum seekers. This is significant, because voluntary work in the community can give you real-life experience and demonstrate your commitment to your chosen career. By meeting individuals who are faced with rebuilding their lives after leaving a war-torn country, students tell us that they are able to relate to their studies more directly than they would have done through reading a text book.
What volunteering opportunities can we offer you?
- Conservation work
- Sports coaching
- Working with charities such as the RSPCA, the National Trust
- Working with young offenders, with children and young people in various settings
- Working with people with disabilities
- Website design
- Befriending adults with mental ill health
- Fundraising
Involvement in volunteering ranges from one-day projects throughout the year to regular activities, which may involve a couple of hours per week or fortnightly. There are also projects which enable students to gain course related experience or the possibility of running student led projects.
Students in classrooms opportunities
Students can get involved in NTU's Students in Classroom scheme. Students from the School of Arts and Humanities often get involved in this scheme and secure paid placements in primary and secondary schools.
