Key information

The University Language Programme (ULP) is open to all students and staff registered with the University, as well as members of the public.

Classes generally take place on the City site. The courses start in October and run until April. Depending on the language and level, a range of classes are offered at different times of the week, including evenings. The full timetable will be available at the registration sessions.

Registration sessions / applying to our courses

To apply for one of our courses you need to attend a registration session, during which your specific learning level is assessed by our tutors. This will ensure you make the most of your time in the University Language Programme and are not placed in the wrong stage of language class. At the registration session you will be placed in a language class and will also need to pay your fees.

Students continuing with the next stage of their language or are repeating/referred for the same language are not required to see a tutor, but still need to attend the registration session to be placed into one of our language classes.

Important information for registration

  • You must be 18 or over to register.
  • All undergraduate students must bring their timetable with them to registration so that ULP classes do not clash with your subject timetable.
  • There are different sessions depending on whether you are a member of the general public / staff, postgraduate or undergraduate.
  • Although we offer separate registration sessions all students are combined in class.
  • Erasmus students must bring their learning agreements with them to registration if they are taking their language as accredited.

See the latest registration schedule.
