Volunteering
Volunteering
We organise a variety of volunteering schemes and projects with various organisations within Nottinghamshire that we feel are suitable for participation by NTU staff and students. These encourage staff and student volunteers to become more involved in the community where they live, work and learn.
Student volunteering
Opportunities for students are organised through the Initi8 volunteering project which provides students with the opportunity to create their own one-off and short-term volunteer projects, alongside accessing a variety of opportunities with local organisations. The University and Students Union work closely together to ensure this is a great project, with all the opportunities having the full support and guidance from staff members.
One day challenges
This supports three student committees at each of the NTU campuses, with students acting as Project Leaders, organising and delivering one-day projects in the local community.
Student led projects
This is for those students aspiring to set up their own project which meets a community need of interest to them. These projects seek to create longer term opportunities, with students taking the lead in their planning, development and delivery.
Volunteer Shop
This matches students to volunteering opportunities in local organisations, enabling students to take part in a subject of interest to them or gain some course/career related experience.
Staff volunteering
The Employee Volunteering and Community Engagement Scheme promotes volunteering to Nottingham Trent University staff through various schemes, mostly linked with local schools and colleges. There also opportunities for staff teams to take part in Team Challenges with local community organisations.
Regular volunteering opportunities
These opportunities require a regular commitment e.g. taking part on a weekly or monthly basis.
One-day projects
Projects that can be completed as part of a one-day challenge.
Sports-related volunteering
Opportunities that relate specifically to sport.
Active in Communities Project
The Active in Communities Project (AICP) at NTU creates volunteering opportunities for staff and students within Nottinghamshire and encourages volunteers to become more involved in the community where they live, work and learn.
The AICP currently works with around 100 organisations across Nottingham and is continually developing new volunteering opportunities.
NTU in the community
The University is committed to a Corporate Responsibility Programme to broaden the contribution of staff and students to the local and regional community. To this end we actively promote, recognise and encourage employee volunteering in the Community Involvement Scheme and will do what we can to enable NTU employees to engage with the community.
Most voluntary and community organisations have restricted funds and rely heavily on their volunteers to deliver targets. Employee volunteering can provide a larger bank of volunteers on which to draw valuable skills that the organisation would not be able to secure elsewhere.
