Calendar of work

To ensure that IT systems continue to meet the requirements and expectations of the business, a continuous process of upgrades, enhancements and fixes are applied throughout the year.

Where possible, the Information Systems team schedule breaks in service at times which have the least impact. These take advantage of the JANET (UK’s Joint Academic Network) “at risk” period on Tuesdays between 07:00 to 09:00. In addition, some breaks are routinely scheduled for Thursdays between 07:00 to 09:00. All changes go through a rigorous programme of testing and if this shows that work can not be completed within the two hour window, work may then be scheduled at a weekend, at a time negotiated with the business owner or if non urgent, in the next available vacation period.

Occasionally, due to the nature of the work to boost security or to close and fix vulnerabilities, essential maintenance is scheduled with very little advance notice and may interrupt the working day. Where possible, every effort is made to minimise the quantity and the impact of this work.

We will publish this information here as soon as work is confirmed. Unfortunately, there will be times outside of our control when services are unavailable. When this happens, we will make every effort to keep you informed via email from ITS IT Alerts.
