IP phones
The new IP telephone system brings additional services to your desk - caller display, a mini directory to show you your recently placed, missed and received calls and a corporate telephone directory, so you can look up staff contact details people from the phone unit itself.
Voicemail
In our new voicemail system, called Unity, messages can be listed to through the telephone as normal, but will also be delivered as .mp3 audio files to your NTU email inbox, and can be listened to on/off campus through a phone handset. Read the Unity voicemail user guide and frequently asked questions
for more information.
Call handling volumes
Using a call distribution system called IP Contact Centre we can process 300 incoming calls simultaneously. The biggest volume of phone calls are during Clearing, when NTU receives up to 20,000 calls a day, peaking at a hundred calls per minute at it's height. IP Contact Centre can be used by teams all year round. There are two versions of the IP Contact Centre: Cisco Agent Desktop and Cisco Supervisor Desktop for those people managing the call handling teams. The following training materials and user guides have been provided by CPLD and should answer any questions you may have about the new system.

Live Meeting
From your desk, you can hold conference phone calls and collaborate with people on or off campus. You can do this between computers, between phones, over the web and, if you have access to a web cam, with video.
If you have access to a phone and a networked PC, you will be able to set up conference calls with the added benefit of seeing and sharing workspace, with shared online whiteboards, and you'll be able to share and work on files collaboratively.
If you have access to a network computer with a headset or speakers and a microphone, you can forget about the phone and just have the conversation via the computer, saves your phone bill, and if you would be having a conversation with someone from overseas, no international call rates to pay for, you can still share the collaborative online workspace. If you and your participants have access to a web cam, you'll be able to see each other too!
