Placements
Top ten for work placements
NTU is in the top ten British universities for the number of students taking year-long work placements (HESA data 2008/09). Our placement students have worked internationally with Adidas, AstraZeneca, the BBC, BP, Microsoft and Rolls-Royce.
Many of our international students enjoy the challenge of arranging their own work placement or a practical internship which forms part of many of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It can give you an invaluable insight into the British job market, applying for a job and experiencing what a real job interview is like. We have over 6,000 corporate connections and links with industry which explains why we are so highly ranked for placements.
Benefits of doing a work placement
Practical work experience has many benefits for you. It not only helps in your day-to-day studies, but it can give you a real advantage over your colleagues and peers. This period of supervised work experience, often paid, allows you to put your theoretical knowledge into practice in a real work environment. This enhances your commercial awareness and ability to link theory and practice which will be an invaluable skill in your future career.
A placement is also a great benefit if you are interested in working in the UK for a period after you graduate. It looks great on a CV, and in some cases it leads directly to employment within the same company. Although a work placement is highly recommended it is based on an individual’s efforts and is not guaranteed.
