Turnitin

Turnitin is an online system that enables staff and students to check submissions of documents for text matches against its database of papers, articles and web pages. When a piece of coursework is submitted to Turnitin, an Originality Report is generated, which highlights instances of text matching. The Originality Report will give an indication of how good the referencing might be and also a possible indication as to whether any content has been plagiarised or copied from another source, but the Originality Report is not a plagiarism report.

At NTU, Turnitin is integrated into NOW, via the use of the Dropbox facility. Each School has its own online submission policy for assessments, which will indicate whether or not students are expected to use the Turnitin software via the Dropbox on NOW. Each module leader will know the official position regarding Turnitin for their module and will tell students if Turnitin will be used within that particular module.

The library provides first line support to Schools who have chosen to implement the use of Turnitin. Turnitin queries should be directed to the Liaison Librarian for your subject, who can provide tailored help, support and training.
