Disability support

The Library is committed to making its facilities available to all our users. We have provided details of assistive equipment and enhanced library services in this section.

Assistive equipment

We have provided height adjustable desks in each campus. The following equipment is available for loan from the Information Desk in each library.

  • Back rests and chair supports
  • Coloured overlays
  • Trackerball mice
  • Whale mice
  • Wrist rests

Assistive software

Texthelp software - For speech feedback to support many dyslexic users. This is available in all the student resource rooms.

Inspirations software – Mind mapping software. This is available in all the student resource rooms.

ZoomText software– Screen magnification software. This is available in certain rooms only - ask at the Information Desk regarding the availability of Zoomtext.

JAWS software – Screen reading software. This is available in certain rooms only - ask at the Information Desk regarding the availability of JAWS.

Special loans services

  • One week loan items may be borrowed for two weeks
  • Telephone bookings are accepted for short loan material
  • No recalls on borrowed material
  • Three week loans may be retained for the full loan period without being recalled
  • Proxy borrowing
  • Fetching / carrying service.

If you require a special loan, please contact the Information Desk at each library. Please allow at least 24 hours notice. Once retrieved, requested items will be reserved and may be collected from the Information Desk. When an item is on loan you can reserve it in the usual way.

The Postal Loans Service
If you are referred to this service by Student Support Services, you will be able to request library materials to be delivered to your home address. If you would like to know more about this service, please visit the postal loans page.

Individual induction

Individual induction and information skills training can be arranged on request for students with disabilities. There is a designated Liaison Librarian for your subject area who will be happy to advise you whenever necessary.

If you need more details please ask at the Information Desk or contact the Customer Services Team.

Members of staff with disabilities should contact their Liaison Librarian to discuss their specific support needs.
