Student Mentors
Do you want to improve your grades, manage your studies more efficiently or just talk to other students in your School who've already studied at your current level?
Student Mentors are second and third year, undergraduate and postgraduate students at Nottingham Trent University. They have been trained to work with other students to offer support for academic writing, maths and other study skills. They offer group and one-to-one sessions, as well as workshops and drop-in surgeries.
Please note that Student Mentors will not do your reading, writing or thinking for you, or edit or proofread your work. Our aim, in line with NTU Graduate Attributes, is to help you to develop these skills for yourself:
- Aptitude for independent, critical thought and rational inquiry, alongside the capacity for analysis and problem-solving in multiple contexts.
- Intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm for learning and an aptitude for self-directed learning.
The scheme is currently available in the Schools which have no other form of writing or maths support:
- Nottingham Business School
- Nottingham Law School
- School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences
- School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment
- School of Education
- School of Science and Technology.
For support outside of these Schools please contact the following people:
- School of Art and Design: Christine Hardy
- School of Arts and Humanities: Lisa Clughen
- School of Social Sciences: Sian Trafford.
Workshop
Revision Techniques
It is always best to ensure that you have a firm understanding of your course as you go along, but coming up to exam time it is advisable to think about your approach to tackling the assessment and how to consolidate your revision. There will be many things to think about and this revision workshop will help you to get organised so that you feel more confident and in control. Student Mentors offer advice on: time management; getting organised and revision techniques.
