Visitor access to electronic resources

Visitor access to electronic resources

The license agreements for some electronic resources (journals and databases) permit access by visitors to NTU. This service is available to visitors described as walk-in users to the Boots Library during library staffed opening hours.

Alternatively, visitors from other universities may be able to use the JANET Roaming service which enables access to electronic resources at your home institution using a wireless access point at NTU.

Using the visitor access service

As per the Visitor Access Policy:

  • Visits are limited to three days during an academic year
  • Visitors are required to provide photographic identification and proof of address in order to enter the library
  • In addition, in order to access the electronic resources, you will need to agree to and sign the access terms and conditions; these will be available from staff at the Reception Desk

Once you have produced the required documentation and signed the terms and  conditions you will be issued with a password to use the visitor access PC.

Please note

  • You may only use the designated visitor access PC; use is on a first come, first served basis
  • The electronic resources may only be used for educational purposes; use for commercial purposes is prohibited
  • The service does not provide access to MS Office or the Internet; there is no printing from the visitor access PC but you may use a USB storage device
  • Library staff are only able to provide minimal support to individuals using this service. The resources have extensive online help pages and we would expect you to make use of these
