Study environment

The libraries are zoned to provide a choice of study environments to suit your needs.

Group study zone

If you want to study as a group, these are the zones for you. Look out for the green zone symbols.

There are open plan group study areas at all three libraries, complete with study tables, PCs and power sockets for laptops. In addition, at Boots and Clifton Libraries, you can book rooms with a PC, interactive plasma screen and white board for up to two hours per day per group.

To book a Group Study Room please speak to a member of staff at the Information Desk at either Boots or Clifton Library. Alternatively bookings can be made by telephone or online.

Quiet study zone

These zones are designed for quiet, individual study at tables, some with power sockets for laptops and PCs, which are marked with orange symbols.

Silent study zone

If you prefer silent, individual study, then the red zones are for you. Here you will find study tables, some with power sockets for laptops and PCs. PCs in this zone do not provide access to Facebook.

Code of Behaviour

Please help us to maintain an environment in which you and other students can learn and study by keeping the following points in mind:

  • Shhh! - remember that the library is primarily a place to study. Make sure that you are not disturbing other people by talking loudly. Please put your mobile on silent.
  • Soft drinks, tea and coffee are allowed as long as they are in lidded, non-spill containers.
  • Cold snacks are also allowed, except in silent study areas.
  • Litter is unpleasant, so respect the library and other people by clearing away your rubbish and recycling waste where possible, using the bins provided.
  • Don't be a desk hog – study and PC space is in very high demand. If you are leaving for an extended break, please take your belongings with you so that someone else can use the study space or PC.
  • Treat fellow library users and library staff with courtesy, respect and consideration at all times.

We'd rather not have to, but if we feel you are not behaving in a considerate way, we may ask you to leave the library. You may also be liable to further action under the University's disciplinary procedures.
