Third Sector Commissioning

Modernising Commissioning Short Courses

March 2011, City Campus, Nottingham

Working with Local Government Improvement and Development (LGID), in response to the Cabinet Office's recent Green Paper (Modernising Commissioning: Increasing the role of charities, social enterprises, mutuals and cooperatives in public service delivery), we have developed a two-day short course specifically aimed at bringing together those wishing to improve their strategic commissioning from the third sector and third sector organisations wishing to be better engaged in the process.

What is it?

Two complementary workshops for Third Sector organisations and Public Sector Commissioners from areas such as:

  • Local government
  • NHS
  • Central Government Departments
  • The Police
  • Fire and Rescue Service.

Participants will explore the current financial and policy contexts facing the third sector as well as a range of successful local case studies both to assist mutual understanding and to encourage networking.

How is it delivered?

This will be a two day bespoke workshop designed to improve commissioning and procurement practice through the involvement of the third sector as both stakeholders and providers, inline with the Coalition Government's objectives.

What will be covered?

  • the coalition government's current and future policy expectations for and from the sector
  • the key factors which contribute to effective strategic commissioning and third sector engagement as demonstrated by local case studies
  • strategic financial management and alternative sources of sustainable funding
  • techniques for improving Leadership and Management Skills through personal development and self-awareness
  • the role and development of networks and collaborations in the new policy and financial environments.

Course dates

Friday 18 and Friday 25 March 2011
