Overview

The Marketing Division is a vibrant and constantly evolving part of Nottingham Business School that comprises 24 permanent staff with disciplines covering the broad areas of marketing, retail and operations management. When the visiting faculty is added to this list, the division can provide a knowledge and experience base covering a large range of specialisms within its three broad subject areas of interest. This base is used to underpin the division's teaching, research and consultancy activities.

Teaching
The division has considerable experience and competencies in delivering a range of well received, relevant and academically rigorous subject areas to undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and in-company audiences. Adopting a range of student-centred teaching and learning approaches, lecturing staff seek to explore theoretical content from both academic and practitioner perspectives, hence the view that practice informs theory and vice versa is deeply embedded in the curricula.

Research and consultancy
Academic research in the division is organised around three main groupings that serve as focal points for a range of research activities. The Strategic Marketing group comprises a range of themes including Marketing Orientation and Implementation, Relationship Marketing, Customer Value, and Ethical Consumer Behaviour. The Retail and Supply Chain group draws together retail marketing, retail management and operations themes and focuses on areas such as retail image and branding, atmospherics, employer branding, gendered perceptions of retailers, retail regeneration and retail career paths. The Marketing Education group undertakes research in a range of fields including course design, the teaching research methods, the international student experience and the impact of lecturer satisfaction on HE service quality.

The division has a strong track record in Knowledge Transfer Partnerships or KTPs (formerly known as the Teaching Company Scheme) with five such projects either in progress or recently completed. The strong record in KTPs is based on the division's close links with industry and its range and depth of expertise.
