eHRM Conference 2012
In recent years HR practitioners have had to cope with current events such as natural disasters, the financial crisis, changes in government regulations and addressing societal trends such as generational changes, as well as an increasing emphasis on green and sustainable organisations. This has highlighted the need for sophisticated electronic systems for the improvement of HRM effectiveness and strategic decision making by providing access to automated HRM processes. This requires constant development and adoption of new forms of social interaction and working systems (for example, social networking, virtual work and outsourcing). Such activities enable not only for efficiency and effectiveness, but also innovation and creativity in attracting, managing, developing and engaging key talent to the organisation.
As a member of the Drucker Society for Europe, Nottingham Business School hosted a Drucker Society Breakfast meeting on 9 September 2011. The meeting titled Beyond CSR - What is Next? allowed senior managers who are interested in sustainable future for their organisation to explore the critical issues (both barriers and opportunities) which could potentially impact upon their organisation in the increasingly turbulent times.
Ninth Rural Entrepreneurship Conference
Rural communities and economies face unprecedented social and economic challenges and opportunities. Given the scale and nature of these changes and the inherent difficulties and capacity constraints confronting rural communities in addressing them, this conference offered a forum for the dissemination of research findings, analysis and good practice. The prime focus of this conference was on sustainable development in this context of change.
The Realities of Researching Under-represented Groups in Small and Medium Size Enterprises
A Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS) and Nottingham Business School funded workshop.
For 2011 the AHE Conference theme was Economists of Tomorrow. This reflects the fact that, the world over, we are focused on challenging the hegemonic domination of our profession by just one approach embedded in mainstream economics: the neoclassical approach. The clear failure of neoclassical economics to predict, explain or find solutions to the global financial and economic crises makes it vulnerable.
