Human Capital Forums

Background:
The initiative for the introduction of these forums stems from a long term interest in human capital and workforce planning and human resource information systems, developed through professional practice and academic research.

In the last decade there has been a developing global scholarly and practitioner interest in the notion of human capital, its meaning and in the workplace. In Europe the Study on the Measurement of Intangible Assets and Associated Reporting Practices Commission of European Communities Enterprise Directorate General (2003) prompted the UK's Department of Trade and Industry to offer the Company Law Operating and Financial Review (OFR) (2004). Although this was later amended, a number of organisations saw the potential of generating and using human capital data to support strategic corporate and HR decision making.

A distinctive characteristic of the NBS CIPD HR Professional Qualification programme has been the module titled Managing Information Strategically, led by Hazel Williams, which was underpinned by human capital management and human resource information systems can be used to support strategic corporate and HR decision making. In the newly revised programme this subject is re-energised in the module E-HR.

In conversations with practitioners, we have noted a growing interest in how to develop, manage, retain, track and use people's data to inform strategic and operational HR decision-making. In an attempt to provide a structured, but informal forum for like-minded individuals we welcome the opportunity to invite those interested in this area to join in bi-monthly topic-focused discussions.

Participants:
The remit for this forum is to offer a themed discussion opportunity for those with responsibility for designing, producing and disseminating HR related information for senior and middle management, often with additional responsibilities for their organisation's human resource information systems. This forum provides excellent opportunities for continual professional development (CPD).

Meetings will take place on a bi-monthly basis 5.30 pm - 7.30 pm unless advised differently.

Next meeting date: Wednesday 9 May 2012
