Byron: Art and Nature
Thursday 22 November 2012
Newton building, NTU City site
Lecture abstract:
This lecture looked – mainly at Byron’s prose writings – to consider how surprisingly different his views on city and countryside, and art and inspiration, are from many of his contemporaries – and from the popular idea of Byron himself.
Speaker biography:
Drummond Bone is Master of Balliol College, Oxford and an acknowledged expert on the poetry of Byron.
He has also been involved in business and university interaction, and in economic regeneration as a member of the CBI’s Science and Innovation Committee, as Chair of the Northern Innovation and Industry Group, and as Chair of the Liverpool ‘European Capital of Culture’ Company.
In 2008, he was commissioned by the then UK Government to write a report on the internationalisation of higher education, and since then has been a consultant on internationalisation to universities both in the UK and overseas.
