Festival to showcase international talent, February 18 2006

A showcase of talent from universities across the region will be on display in Nottingham on Saturday during the International Students’ Festival 2006. The event, being hosted by Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham, will feature an extravaganza of dancing, singing and performing by and for international students.

Nottingham Trent Students’ Union will start the day at 10am with a free juice breakfast for everyone. This will be followed by a variety of dance, song and martial art performances originating from places such as Iran, Russia and Latin America. There will also be an internationally-themed fashion show.

A multicultural buffet will be provided at the SU before students are taken to the University of Nottingham campus for the afternoon’s entertainment. This will include classical Indian dancing, Capoeira, Salsa displays, and a demonstration of the Hindu sporting competition Khel.

Other activities will include a Fairtrade café, screenings of films such as City of God and Monsoon, and the chance to take part in debates on a range of international topics.

Nottingham Trent Students’ Union president, Kate Steventon, said: “A lot of time and preparation has gone into organising this fun-filled and enlightening day, showcasing the talents of the international students from universities across the region. The aim of the festival is to bring together this branch of the student community for what we are sure will be a massive success for all involved.”
