Fiction and poetry anthology launch, Waterstones, Nottingham, 9 June (7pm)
Literary talent on Nottingham Trent University’s MA Creative Writing course has produced an anthology of new fiction and poetry. 3D, written and edited by staff, students and some of the most exciting voices on the literary scene, is being launched on 9 June at Waterstones bookstore in Nottingham. The book takes its name from the three themes it explores: discovery, displacement and deception.
3D began as an idea in the University’s Creative Writing Department when contributors were asked to look at the themes. Each tells a personal journey, sometimes intimate, sometimes painful and sometimes humorous. The reader is invited to share moments of romance, drama and suspense.
Among the contributors is David Belbin who is Programme Leader for Creative Writing at Nottingham Trent University and writes novels for young people. Reader in Creative Writing, Graham Joyce, four-time winner of the British Fantasy Award and winner of the World Fantasy Award, has also contributed a story.
Esteemed poet and Senior Lecturer in English, Mahendra Solanki, has his work featured, as does Peter Porter, recipient of the 2002 Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry and student on the MA course. Former student Nicola Monaghan, whose first novel The Killing Jar has been published to critical acclaim, is also included.
New writers include Maiko Nagamori, Loay Hady, Rosemary Brierley and Roberta J. Dewa.
The students are on the full and part-time courses in Creative Writing, based at the University’s Clifton campus.
