Conference will give key advice to graduate recruiters
Organisations from across the country will be given an insight on how to retain and develop graduate employees during a conference at Nottingham Trent University. To have and to hold: Working together to retain and develop graduates has been organised by the university’s careers service and will be held in the DICe Conference Room on July 7.
It is estimated that a quarter of employers lose 50% of new staff within their first year of employment – reasons include the reality of the job being ignored in the recruitment literature, highlights of the job being over-emphasised, and not enough open dialogue between employer and employee. The conference will support the sharing of good working practice as well as providing networking opportunities for recruiters and academic colleagues.
Professor David Webb, Pro Vice-chancellor, and Head of College, Business, Law and Social Sciences, will introduce the conference before the key note speech is made by Spencer Hibbert, the East Midlands Regional Recruitment Manager from Enterprise-Rent-A-Car.
Nottingham Trent University graduates who are between two and five years into their careers will give a series of presentations, which will be followed by workshops intended to share good practice on graduate retention and development.
An expert panel, chaired by Professor Webb, will answer questions, before closing comments from Paul Hacking, the head of the university’s careers service.
Paul Hacking said: “Nottingham Trent University has an enviable record in liaising with graduate recruiters and this event marks an important step forward in our continuing support of our graduates in the workplace and in their professional development.”

Notes for editors: The event follows on from the success of a similar conference last year: Best of both worlds, which focused on internships and placements.
