New Dean appointed to lead Art and Design School

One of the world’s foremost Art and Design Schools has appointed its new Dean.  Ann Priest joins Nottingham Trent University’s School of Art and Design from the London College of Fashion.  She replaces Jean Williamson OBE, who is retiring after 34 years at the university.

Ann Priest has significant experience in the fashion industry having worked for a variety of fashion houses – such as Mulberry and high street retailer Wallis.  She has been a Dean at the London College of Fashion for the last 13 years where she was a member of the senior team charged with leading the development from a vocational FE focus to a contemporary, specialist fashion college. Previous to this, Ann was Head of Fashion Design and Marketing at the University of East London.

With roots dating back to the 1840s, the School of Art and Design at Nottingham Trent University has an outstanding international reputation for art and design excellence.  Its premises in Nottingham city centre have recently undergone an extensive multi-million pound rebuilding programme and were officially re-opened by Sir Paul Smith.

In her new role Ann will be using her considerable industry experience to lead the School in what is becoming an increasingly competitive marketplace.  She will be looking to further develop its reputation at both a national and international level as well as ensuring the School continues to attract the best students from around the globe.

Ann said: “I am really excited about my new appointment.  The achievements of the School’s students and staff speak volumes. It is not surprising that its graduates are consistently amongst the most sought after within the creative industries both here and abroad.

“My job will be to continue Jean Williamson’s excellent work and to ensure the School of Art and Design remains at the forefront of design and creative innovation.  I relish the opportunity and challenge!”

Professor Simon Lewis, the Head of the College of Art & Design and Built Environment, said: “The depth of Ann’s experience, both as strategic leader and as a hands-on academic, will be vital as the School of Art and Design enters a new era.  I am confident that she will lead the School to new levels and very much look forward to working with her in the future.”

Ann will join Nottingham Trent University in October.
