An evening with the UK's leading event rider - William Fox-Pitt (16 November 2006 7pm)
Leading UK and world number two event rider, William Fox-Pitt, will give a lecture and demonstration to an audience in the galleried seating area of Nottingham Trent University’s Brackenhurst Equestrian Centre on Thursday 16 November.
During the evening, the Event Riders Association board member will explain that to excel in eventing, a horse and rider must develop a strong partnership and work together through the dressage, show jumping and cross country phases.
William will offer expert advice on how to train a horse and ride each phase, using some of his own horses to demonstrate the techniques required.
William started eventing when he was 15, having ridden from a young age. He was encouraged by his mother, herself a member of the British three day eventing team, and father, who competed at Badminton and Burghley. However, it was not until he graduated from university in 1993 that eventing became his career.
Opportunity is one thing – making the most of it is another, and William has demonstrated the toughness and determination necessary to succeed in one of the world’s most demanding sports. He is extremely talented and has built up a formidable string of top class horses.
William is married to television racing presenter, Alice Plunkett, and is based in Dorset.
Professor Jenny Saint, from the University’s School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences, said: “We’re delighted that William is coming here to allow us to benefit from his experience and expertise as a leader in his field. As a Burghley winner and consistently ranked at the top of the table, we look forward to an excellent evening with William for the last in our series of sell-out lecture demonstrations in 2006.”
