Feeding for optimum horse performance (January 17 2007, 7.30pm)
Internationally renowned equine nutritionist, Dr Teresa Hollands, is to give an evening talk to equine enthusiasts at Nottingham Trent University's Brackenhurst campus. Teresa will talk about the importance of correct feeding to optimise performance in the horse.
Having worked in the feed industry for more than 20 years, Teresa is a frequent contributor to the equine press and co-author to numerous research publications. She is currently responsible for Dodson and Horrell’s research programme, playing a pivotal role in the development of new products. Her particular interest is in translating science into practice to help owners improve the welfare of their horses.
Teresa will cover areas such as getting the balance between energy intake and gut health right, as well as discussing how to minimise gastric ulcers, stereotypy and other digestive problems associated with the performance horse. The audience will have the chance to debate the topic of whether feed can affect behaviour and how the rider’s interpretation of this might effect their feed decisions.
Heather Owen, Academic Team Leader in the University's School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences, said: "We're delighted that Teresa is coming to Brackenhurst to allow us to benefit from her experience and expertise, particularly in this area which relates to our Equine Sports Science degree. The lecture should interest anyone wanting to improve the performance of their horse”.
