Graduates showcase innovative new products at Ideal Home Show
A range of groundbreaking products designed by Nottingham Trent University graduates have been short-listed to go on display at this year’s Ideal Home Show in London’s Earls Court. Five graduates are exhibiting work at the show, which aims to highlight the very latest in home design and must-have products.
The designs, in the show’s Concept Products section, include a glowing jellyfish for a garden pond, a desktop food chiller, a wraparound chair, a polka dot daybed and a home energy monitor. All were created by graduates while on the university’s BA Hons Product Design and Furniture and Product Design courses and will be on display until April 1.
Ellie Bishop’s Jelliefish pond light is a silicone design which draws its inspiration from the glow of a jellyfish. It is fitted with 15 LEDs which change sequence every ten seconds. David Coxhead’s Chill Store is a compact, energy efficient desktop food chiller, which provides portable containers for workers to take from their home to their workplace.
One of Richard Warren’s K-SU wraparound chairs can be wrapped around the user, while the other enables them to position the cushions as they want to. Laura Beirne’s Daybed Bench is an interrelated polka dot daybed and bench offering seating positions for between one and six people – the v-shaped leg also works as a magazine rack.
Finally, Samuel Nutting’s Trident Home Energy Monitor provides information about the precise amount and price of electricity used by different household appliances.
Senior Lecturer in Product Design, James Dale, said: “The chance to showcase their work at such a well-established event as the Ideal Home Show is a great opportunity for these graduates and a fantastic springboard for their careers in design. That they have been handpicked to illustrate the future of British design at such a large, international event is a tremendous achievement and shows the quality of students graduating from the BA product and furniture and product design courses here.”
