Nottingham Trent University takes first place in BUSA Championships
Nottingham Trent University’s student equestrian team is riding high after winning the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) Equestrian Championships. Some 72 teams, from institutions across the UK, competed for one of the six places in the national three-day competition, which is one of the key events on the student Equestrian calendar. Nottingham Trent University took first place after winning both Dressage and Show Jumping Team Finals.
The Nottingham Trent University Equestrian team included Emily Maliphant (studying Law), Annie Sharpe (studying Equine Sports Science), Hannah Westropp (studying the Legal Practice Course) and Sam York who’s taking a PG Cert in Teaching in Higher Education. Annie and Emily also took podium places in the ‘Overall Individual’ and ‘Individual Dressage’ Finals respectively. They will both go on to take part in the Great Britain student team trials.
Nottingham Trent University’s Academic Team Leader for Equine Science, Heather Owen, said:
“This is the first time the University has won the Overall Championship, and the girls did incredibly well against some very stiff competition.
We are very lucky to have some fantastic equestrian facilities here on the University’s Brackenhurst campus where we ran team training. I know that Emily, Annie, Hannah and Sam worked really hard for the event and their success is testament to their dedication and is very much deserved!”
