New president as county show gets underway

The Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society’s County Show gets underway this weekend, with a new president at the helm. Professor Neil Gorman, the Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University, took on the role at the society’s annual meeting.

The show, which takes place at the Newark Showground over Saturday and Sunday, is the main event in the society’s calendar with a huge range of events, exhibitions and shows.

Nottingham Trent University will have its own diverse range of exhibitions and stands at the event, which is expected to attract more than 55,000 visitors.

The University has strong links with the agricultural society, having been involved for many years with its Brackenhurst campus, home to the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences.

Professor Gorman is a long-serving member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and was President from 1997-1998.

He said: “It is an honour to be the society president and I’m really looking forward to this year’s show, which promises to be one of the best yet.”
