Ryan shines at glittering awards ceremony

A most promising student award has been won by a Nottingham Trent University undergraduate at an event to celebrate excellence in tourism, culture, leisure and hospitality across Nottinghamshire. Business Studies student Ryan Coates, who has been working at Premier Travel Inn in the city for the last two years, scooped the prize at the second Nottinghamshire STARS ceremony.

The winners of 13 categories were announced at the event at the Colwick Hall Hotel, which was attended by more than 300 people and hosted by ITV Central’s Sameena Ali-Khan.

Ryan has works in sales and marketing at the Goldsmith Street hotel and is currently undertaking his university placement year there. All the finalists were nominated by colleagues or fellow students for their work in ensuring a top quality service and visitor experience.

Ryan, who would like to set up his own bar or restaurant when he graduates, said: “There are so many opportunities to get involved with the hotel and tourism industry especially if you love working with customers. It has taught me so much, I’d certainly recommend it.”

Nottinghamshire STARS is funded by Greater Nottingham Partnership and Experience Nottinghamshire.

Professor John Heeley, Chief Executive of Experience Nottinghamshire said: “The winners of Nottinghamshire Stars awards are to be congratulated. Tourism is the world’s largest industry and in Nottinghamshire it supports 23,000 full time equivalent jobs, which are spread across over 2,000 businesses.

“The winners are genuine leaders of the pack and provided us with a focus to celebrate quality, commitment and professionalism in the Nottinghamshire tourism and hospitality sector.”
