Graduate employability conference aims to share best practice

The Chief Executive of the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) will be the keynote speaker at an employability conference at Nottingham Trent University on 28 June. Carl Gilleard will join a host of other speakers for the event, Practice Makes Perfect: An Opportunity to Share Good Practice in Graduate Recruitment Methods, which has been organised by the University’s Careers Service.

Carl will give an overview of graduate recruitment and selection in the UK to representatives from local and national organisations.

As well as highlighting best practice in recruitment methods, the conference also aims to maintain and foster links between the University and graduate recruiters, and provide networking opportunities for recruiters and University academics.

The event, in the University’s Centre for Effective Learning in Science (CELS) centre at the Clifton Campus, will include a series of workshops covering issues including assessment centres, applications, psychometric tests and interviews.

Carl Gilleard said: “We have seen a growth in graduate level vacancies year on year since 2004 which is great news for those graduating from University.”

Paul Hacking, Head of the Careers Service at Nottingham Trent University, said: “The University has run an annual employability conference for a number of years, with employers from across the UK representing the public, private and small business sectors.”

He added: “Key employers attending this year include British Sugar, Rolls Royce, Eversheds LLP, Nottingham City Council as well as local businesses such as Union Square Software. We hope this latest event will enable graduate recruiters to network, update recruitment techniques and processes, and share good practice with academic colleagues.”
