Notts healthcare launches 'A Different Connection'

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has supported service users in producing a variety of artwork which will be showcased at an exhibition hosted by Nottingham Trent University from 22nd June – 20th July.

People are being invited to attend this free exhibition, which is being held at the 1851 Gallery in Nottingham, Monday to Friday from 10.00am – 5.00pm.  The event brings together diverse talents from 13 artists who will be exhibiting paintings, textiles and photography all of which have ‘A Different Connection’ and aims to highlight issues of mental health and to share the joy of creativity.

The project was initiated to encourage social inclusion by using community settings to showcase the work achieved by service users and the Trust has worked in collaboration with the Future Factory who is funded by the Arts Council and Nottingham Trent University.  All the artists are service users from the Broad Street Centre and DesignWorks at SPAN, who work with adults with mental health issues through the medium of art.

Katherine Deamer, Project Development Officer at Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust said: “We are really proud to be exhibiting the work of our service users and hope that as many people as possible come down and see all this colourful and professional artwork.  Using community venues such as the 1851 gallery to showcase work is a great opportunity for the wider public to understand more about mental health issues.”
