Nottingham Trent University appoints new Dean
Nottingham Trent University has appointed Professor Christopher Pole as its new Dean for the School of Social Sciences. Professor Pole joins the institution from the University of Leicester, where he held the post of Sub-Dean (PG) in the Faculty of Social Science and Assistant Director (Research) for the School of Education.
Professor Pole is a career sociologist having previously been a member of the Department of Sociology at Leicester. Prior to this he held a joint appointment in the Department of Sociology and the Centre for Educational Development, Appraisal and Research at the University of Warwick. Earlier posts were at the Institute for Employment Studies at the University of Sussex and the National Foundation for Educational Research.
Professor Pole has interests in the sociology of education and of childhood, and has undertaken projects under the ESRC’s Children 5-16: Growing into the 21st Century programme and, more recently, the ESRC/AHRC Cultures of Consumption programme.
He said: “I am really looking forward to the challenge of developing further the university’s already well established profile in the Social Sciences.”
Professor Pole replaces Professor David Mason, who was promoted to Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of College, Business, Law and Social Sciences at Nottingham Trent University.
Professor Mason said: “Chris has extensive experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment and will bring a very strong record of academic leadership to the School of Social Sciences.”
