Distinguished lecture series launched with focus on car design
A leading light in the field of car design will be launching Nottingham Trent University’s 2007 Distinguished Lecture Series. Peter Horbury, Ford’s executive director of design, The Americas, will be exploring the influences - both conscious and subconscious - that shape car design in his lecture ‘Aim for the Heart not the Head’.
In his executive role, Peter is responsible for overseeing the design strategy and execution involving all Ford, Lincoln and Mercury products in North and South America. His career, spanning 33 years, includes 11 years as vice-president of design for Volvo, helping to transform it into the stylish car of today.
Peter said: "Cars are perhaps the most emotive purchase in our lives. My lecture will cover what inspires designers to create a product that stirs what we desire more than just what we need! It should appeal to anyone who is interested in product development as well as having a much broader appeal for car enthusiasts in general."
Peter’s lecture on 12 October is the first in the 2007 lecture series, which features key industry experts covering a wide range of subjects – including Baroness Estelle Morris, Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys and Sir Michael Hopkins.
Nottingham Trent University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Neil Gorman, said: "We’re very pleased to be welcoming these distinguished guest speakers to the University. The programme is designed to be thought-provoking and to create debate and we hope that anyone that comes to the lectures will thoroughly enjoy the subjects discussed."
Peter Horbury’s lecture is free to attend but will be ticketed. To book your place please email the events team or telephone +44 (0)115 848 8786.
