International fashion museum has designs on Nottingham Trent University - MoMu Expo: Selection II (25 October - 7 November)

Prestigious international fashion museum ModeMuseum (MoMu) is coming to Nottingham Trent University to stage a contemporary exhibition based on directional fashion and trends. In collaboration with the University’s School of Art and Design, MoMu, based in Antwerp in Belgium, will present Selection II, a range of inspirational fashion looks based on a fusion of vintage and modern design.

The exhibition, which aims to celebrate the aesthetics of clothing on the body, has been designed and created by stylist Akiko Murata, a graduate of the Department of Fashion at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp. The collection is based on designs from the museum and has been created with a uniquely individual styling from the autumn and winter fashion range of 2006 and 2007.

Murata merges the historical and contemporary, forming entirely new total looks and combining garments from several designers in the MoMu collection. On show will be clothing and accessories from the collections of Martin Margiela, Stephen Jones, Dries Van Noten, Hermes, A F Vandevorst, Ann Demeulemeester, Veronique Branquinho and Christian Louboutin.

A collector of vintage fashion, Murata is able to inform and direct her analysis of fashion history and the connection between past and present. This combination of the contemporary and historical is not considered the norm for a museum, but this unique approach has enabled the presentation of a historical collection in a new and innovative fashion style.

Murata says of her work "I am a stylist, and my role is not necessarily to make fashion cool, but to focus on reality and personality."

Yvonne Trew, programme leader for the MA Fashion Futures courses in Nottingham Trent University’s School of Art and Design, said: "We are delighted to be taking the first significant step in a working relationship with this prestigious and influential fashion museum."
