Study to address challenges in social welfare service delivery
A new project which aims to address challenges in the delivery of social welfare services to the elderly has been launched at Nottingham Trent University. The study - Delivering Public Services in the Mixed Economy of Welfare: Putting Research into Practice - aims to facilitate the sharing of experiences between statutory and voluntary agencies in order to generate new insight into best practice.
The needs of citizens and the legal requirements of government increasingly mean that public service organisations, such as local authorities and health trusts, need to cooperate with the voluntary and community sector (VCS) to deliver and plan services. This project is designed to deliver practical learning regarding the VCS's service delivery, and share criteria regarding monitoring and evaluation of policy and practice.
The collaborative project, aimed at policy makers in the East Midlands and the North East, will feature a range of learning workshops and will culminate with the creation of learning materials and an online resource - including a toolkit - to support effective working relationships between VCS and statutory agencies.
Being funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, the project is being lead by Nottingham Trent University and involves Manchester Metropolitan University, Newcastle University and Age Concern England.
